When do children usually start social greeting?

Most children begin simple social greetings — waving and gesturing — around 9 to 12 months, often pairing a wave with "bye-bye" by 12 to 15 months. By 2 to 3 years many greet familiar people with a word or wave when prompted, and by 3 to 4 years they offer greetings more spontaneously, including basic politeness like "hi" and "bye". Every child arrives at this in their own time, and warm reminders are perfectly normal well into the preschool years.

How social greeting grows
