Interests
Interests AbilityScore 900–1000: what next?
An Interests AbilityScore® in the 900–1000 band is an encouraging sign of rich curiosity and engagement — a strength to build on, not a concern. Next steps are to deepen and gently widen those interests, make them social, and use them as a bridge into language and play, while keeping an eye on other developmental areas. A clinical AbilityScore® and any diagnosis are formed only at a Pinnacle Blooms Network centre under qualified clinician care.
A high Interests score isn't a finish line — it's a wonderful signpost pointing to where your child's spark already lives.
In short
An Interests AbilityScore® in the 900–1000 band is a strong, encouraging result — it tells us your child has rich, well-developed engagement and curiosity that can be channelled into learning, play and connection. There's nothing here to worry about; instead, this is a green light to build on a strength. The next steps are about deepening these interests, widening them gently, and using them as a bridge into other skills your child is still growing. What a strong Interests band means — and how to grow it
When a child's interests are well-developed, those passions become the most powerful teaching tool you have. The aim now is strength-building, not fixing:- Follow the spark, then stretch it — if your child loves trains, vehicles or dinosaurs, use that interest to grow language ("big train, fast train"), turn-taking, counting and storytelling. A loved interest is the easiest doorway into harder skills.
- Widen gently, never force — introduce one adjacent interest at a time (from cars to garages to building tracks) so curiosity broadens without overwhelm.
- Make interests social — invite a parent, sibling or friend into the play. Shared interests are how children practise back-and-forth communication and connection.
- Keep observing the whole picture — Interests is one of several developmental areas. A strong band here is great, but it's worth keeping an eye on how speech, social play and everyday skills are growing alongside it.
A strength like this is something to celebrate and lean into — children learn fastest through what they already love.
When a check still helps
Even with an encouraging band, book a developmental check if you notice your child's interests are extremely narrow or repetitive in a way that limits everyday play, if they find it hard to share or shift away from a favourite topic, or if other areas — talking, social connection or self-care — feel behind. A clinician can see how all the pieces fit together. The Pinnacle way

What to watch
Watch for interests that are extremely narrow or repetitive in ways that limit everyday play, difficulty sharing or shifting from a favourite topic, or other areas like talking, social connection or self-care lagging behind.
Try this at home
Pick your child's favourite interest and use it to sneak in one new skill — count the train carriages, name the dinosaur's colours, or take turns adding to the story. Loved topics are the easiest path to learning.

Frequently asked
Is a 900–1000 Interests AbilityScore good?
Yes — it's an encouraging band that shows your child has rich, well-developed curiosity and engagement. It's a strength to build on rather than anything to worry about.
What should I do next with such a strong score?
Lean into your child's interests to grow other skills — use a loved topic to build language, turn-taking and social play, and gently widen to related interests over time.
Should I still see a clinician if the score is high?
A check still helps if interests are extremely narrow or repetitive in limiting ways, if your child struggles to shift from a favourite topic, or if other areas feel behind. A clinician sees the whole picture.
Does a high Interests score mean my child needs no support?
Not necessarily — Interests is one of several developmental areas. A strong band here is great, but it's worth reviewing alongside speech, social and everyday skills.
