NGO and community support

Where to find NGO and community support for your child

Support for your child's development is available through government disability services (RCI, District Early Intervention Centres, UDID benefits), registered NGOs and parent-led groups, special-education resource centres, and developmental-therapy networks. Start with a clear developmental check so any support you reach for matches your child's needs — and many supports work alongside therapy, not instead of it.

Finding NGO & community support for your child — Ask Pinnacle, the Child Development Kośa

You don't have to walk this road alone — there's a whole community ready to walk it with you.

In short

Support for your child's development is closer than you think. You'll find it through government disability services, registered NGOs and parent-led groups, special-education resource centres, and developmental-therapy networks like ours. The best first move is a clear developmental check, so any help you reach for is matched to what your child actually needs — and many supports can run alongside therapy, not instead of it.

Where to look

Government and statutory routes (India)
  • The Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) lists registered professionals and recognised institutions, so you can verify that whoever you turn to is qualified.
  • District Early Intervention Centres (DEICs) under the national child-health programme offer screening and referral, often free of cost.
  • A UDID (Unique Disability ID) card can unlock scheme benefits, scholarships and aids — ask any developmental centre to guide you through applying.

Community and NGO support

  • Parent support groups — in-person or online — connect you with families a few steps ahead of you. The shared, lived knowledge is priceless.
  • Condition-specific NGOs (for autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, hearing or vision needs) often run respite care, sibling support, vocational training and awareness drives.
  • Special schools and inclusive-education resource rooms can complement therapy with structured learning support.

Tip: ask each group three questions — Are your professionals RCI-registered? What does it cost? How will you coordinate with my child's therapy plan? Good support is happy to answer all three.

Frequently asked

Is NGO support free in India?

Many government routes — such as District Early Intervention Centre screening and certain scheme benefits unlocked by a UDID card — are free or subsidised. NGO services vary: some run on donations and offer free or low-cost help, while others charge modest fees. Always ask about costs upfront.

How do I check if a support group or professional is genuine?

Ask whether their professionals are registered with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). RCI maintains an official register of recognised professionals and institutions, which is the simplest way to verify credibility.

Can community support replace therapy?

No — they work best together. Parent groups, NGOs and resource centres add lived experience, respite and learning support, but they complement structured, clinician-led therapy rather than replacing it. A developmental assessment helps you decide the right mix.
