When dyslexia assessment becomes meaningful

A dyslexia assessment becomes appropriate once formal reading and spelling instruction is underway and a child is finding it persistently harder than peers despite good teaching — typically from age 6–8 onwards. Before then, the right focus is rich language exposure and, if anything seems off, a general developmental and speech-language check rather than a reading test.
