Everyday play that helps

  • Pretend and role-play — feeding a doll, playing 'shop' or 'doctor', acting out a bedtime routine. Pretend play lets children rehearse feelings, practise empathy and try out different roles safely.
  • Turn-taking games — rolling a ball back and forth, simple board games, stacking blocks one at a time. These build patience, sharing and tolerating the wait — early self-regulation.
  • Naming feelings in play and stories — "The bear looks sad — what could help him?" Pointing to feelings in books, faces and toys gives children words for emotions, the first step to managing them.
  • Peek-a-boo and reunion games (for little ones) — these gently teach that you come back, building trust and security.
