Reading the band gently:

  • Higher bands suggest your child takes in and acts on information quickly and fluidly for their age.
  • Mid bands suggest steady, age-typical processing — comfortably within the everyday range.
  • Lower bands suggest your child may need a little more time to take things in and respond, which can show up as needing instructions repeated, tiring during fast-paced tasks, or working carefully but slowly.

A lower band is an invitation to support, not a limit. With the right pacing, practice and strategies, processing efficiency very often strengthens over time.

How to read it well

Look at the score alongside how your child is doing in real life — at play, in conversation, while following instructions. Processing speed can dip when a child is tired, anxious, or when attention, language or hearing are also involved, so a clinician always considers the whole story before drawing any conclusion. One number is never the child.
