When a child sits in the green zone for catching skills, the priority is maintenance and generalisation, not intensive remediation. Channel direct session time toward amber and red domains, while embedding catching as a confidence-building, motivating thread that scaffolds weaker visual-motor or bilateral-coordination targets. Document the strength, set a light monitoring cadence, and use it as a regulatory and engagement anchor within the wider plan.

Clinical prioritisation logic

• Allocate intensity by need, not by domain count. A green RAG status signals age-appropriate or above-age catching (visual tracking, anticipatory hand positioning, timing, bilateral grading). Reserve high-frequency direct intervention for amber/red domains; the green skill needs only periodic re-check to confirm it is holding.
• Use the strength as a therapeutic bridge. Catching draws on visual attention, postural stability, motor planning and bilateral coordination — embed it to scaffold related goals (e.g. pairing a confident catch with crossing midline, dynamic balance, or sequencing demands) so the child practises harder skills from a position of competence.
• Leverage for regulation and engagement. A mastered, enjoyable motor task is a reliable success experience — useful for re-engaging after a demanding task, managing frustration, or opening a session.
• Set a monitoring cadence. Re-assess at routine review intervals rather than each session, and watch for any regression or for the skill being context-bound (catches a soft ball seated, but not a moving ball in a game).
• Coach the parent to maintain, not drill. Brief home guidance to keep the skill generalising across balls, distances and play contexts preserves the gain without over-allocating clinic time.

When to re-prioritise

Flag for fresh review if catching plateaus relative to advancing peers, if it fails to generalise beyond the assessment context, or if an amber/red domain shows it was being propped by a compensatory strategy. Any apparent regression in a previously green skill warrants prompt clinician re-evaluation rather than continued routine monitoring.
