Working Memory

How Working Memory Is Scored on the AbilityScore®

Working memory on the AbilityScore® is measured through a clinician-administered structured assessment, not an online quiz. A trained Pinnacle clinician observes how your child holds and uses information in age-appropriate play and tasks, gathers parent and teacher input, and reads your child against their own baseline. Only a Pinnacle clinician can interpret what it means.

How Working Memory Is Scored on the AbilityScore® — Ask Pinnacle, the Child Development Kośa

When you wonder how your child holds and uses information in the moment, the kindest answer begins with careful, structured observation — never a single number from a screen.

In short

Working memory — your child's ability to hold a little information in mind and use it to follow steps, recall an instruction, or finish a task — is measured on the AbilityScore® through a clinician-administered structured assessment, not an online quiz. A trained Pinnacle clinician observes your child through age-appropriate play and tasks (for ages 3–7), gathers what you and teachers notice day to day, and reads your child against their own developmental baseline. The result becomes a warm, practical picture, not a verdict.

How working memory is read

For a young child, working memory shows up in everyday moments, so a clinician looks at how your child manages real tasks:
  • Holding instructions — can your child keep a one- or two-step direction in mind long enough to act on it?
  • Recall in play — remembering where an object was hidden, or what comes next in a familiar sequence.
  • Following routines — keeping track of steps in dressing, tidying or a simple game.
  • Context and look-alikes — a clinician gently separates true working-memory difficulty from attention, language or anxiety, which can look similar.

The AbilityScore® turns these careful observations into a structured profile of strengths and supports. We never share the internal scoring method — what matters for you is that it is administered by a qualified clinician and interpreted with your child's full story in mind.

When to seek a look

If your child often forgets instructions seconds after hearing them, struggles to finish multi-step tasks, or seems to lose track mid-activity more than peers, a gentle professional look is worthwhile now. Early support builds confidence before school demands grow.

What to watch

Seek a professional look if your child often forgets instructions seconds after hearing them, struggles to complete two-step tasks, or repeatedly loses track mid-activity more than other children their age.

Try this at home

Give instructions in small, clear chunks and ask your child to repeat them back. Turning steps into a little song or counting them on fingers helps your child hold information in mind while they act.

Frequently asked

Is the AbilityScore® for working memory an online test?

No. It is a clinician-administered structured assessment carried out at a Pinnacle Blooms Network centre. A qualified clinician observes your child through age-appropriate play and tasks and interprets the result against your child's own baseline.

At what age can working memory be assessed?

For children aged about 3 to 7 years, working memory is read through everyday tasks and play. Younger children are observed more broadly for general development, as working memory becomes clearer with age.

Will the AbilityScore® give my child a diagnosis?

No. The AbilityScore® is a non-diagnostic structured profile. Any diagnosis is formed only at a Pinnacle Blooms Network centre under the care of a qualified clinician, considering your child's full story.
