How is Family scored on the AbilityScore?

The AbilityScore® doesn't rate your family as good or bad. It gently maps the support and relationships around your toddler — connection, daily routines and what would help you feel more confident — within the ICF e3 domain, always strengths-first. It is gathered through calm conversation and observation, and only a Pinnacle clinician forms the clinical score.

How Family Is Scored on the AbilityScore — Ask Pinnacle, the Child Development Kośa

Your family isn't being judged — it's being understood, because a child grows best when the people around them are supported too.

In short

The AbilityScore® doesn't "score" your family as good or bad. Instead, it gently maps the support and relationships around your toddler — how you connect, your daily routines, and what would help you feel more confident — so the plan we build fits your real life. This sits within the ICF e3 · Support and relationships domain, and it is always a strengths-first conversation, never a verdict on parenting.

How the family dimension is read

For a toddler (roughly 12–36 months), so much development happens through everyday relationships, so a clinician looks gently at:
  • Connection and responsiveness — the warm back-and-forth of play, comfort and shared attention between your child and familiar caregivers.
  • Routines and home rhythm — sleep, mealtimes and play patterns that either ease or stretch your day.
  • Your priorities and worries — what matters most to your family, and where you'd welcome support.
  • Practical context — who is in your child's circle of care, and what resources or strengths you already draw on.

This is gathered through a calm conversation and observation, not a quiz with a pass mark. The aim is to turn your family's strengths into a practical, doable plan.

What to watch

Notice everyday connection: does your toddler turn to you for comfort, share smiles and play, and settle with familiar routines? If daily life feels persistently overwhelming or you're unsure where to turn for support, a gentle professional conversation can help.

Try this at home

Build one small, predictable shared moment each day — a song before nap, a cuddle at mealtime. Repeated warm routines are how toddlers learn the world is safe, and they ease your day too.
