How Behaviours Are Scored on the AbilityScore
A toddler's behaviours are scored on the AbilityScore through structured clinician observation of how your child regulates emotion, plays, adapts to routine and connects with familiar people — always against your child's own baseline. It is a clinician-administered assessment, never an online figure, and any score or diagnosis is confirmed only at a Pinnacle Blooms Network centre.
Understanding how your toddler behaves is never about labels — it's about seeing the whole, wonderful picture of who they are.
In short
A toddler's behaviours are scored on the AbilityScore® through careful, structured observation of how your child reacts, copes and connects in everyday moments — not by ticking off a worry list. A qualified Pinnacle clinician watches how your child plays, responds to feelings, manages frustration and follows simple routines, then compares this against your child's own developmental baseline. It is a clinician-administered structured assessment, never an online figure or a snap judgement. How behaviours are looked at
For a child aged 1–3 years, behaviour is read through emotion and everyday interaction (ICF b152, emotional functions). A skilled clinician gently observes:- Emotional regulation — how your child settles after upset, frustration or excitement, and whether they can be soothed.
- Engagement and play — how they explore, share attention, and respond to a familiar adult joining their play.
- Adapting to routine — coping with small transitions like tidy-up time, mealtimes or leaving the park.
- Responses to others — turning to you for comfort, showing interest in faces, and reacting to simple limits.
- Telling look-alikes apart — sensory needs, tiredness, hunger or language delay can all look like "behaviour", so the clinician considers the full context.
This happens calmly, often over more than one moment, because true patterns show best in a relaxed, familiar setting — never a single rushed test.

What to watch
Notice how your toddler settles after upset, copes with small changes like tidy-up time, and turns to you for comfort. If frustration is frequent and hard to soothe, or your child seems persistently withdrawn, a gentle professional look helps.
Try this at home
Name the feeling before fixing it: "You're cross the blocks fell — that's hard." Calmly naming emotions, repeated daily, is how toddlers learn to manage big feelings over time.

Frequently asked
Is there a single test that scores my toddler's behaviour?
No. There is no single test. A qualified clinician builds a picture through structured observation of how your child plays, regulates emotion and adapts to routine, compared against your child's own baseline — often across more than one calm moment.
Will the AbilityScore give my toddler a label?
No. The AbilityScore is a clinician-administered structured assessment that turns careful observation into a practical plan. It is not a diagnosis — any diagnosis is formed only at a Pinnacle Blooms Network centre under qualified clinician care.
Can I get my child's AbilityScore online?
No. A clinical AbilityScore is formed only in person, at a Pinnacle Blooms Network centre with a qualified clinician — never from an online figure or a checklist.
