Attention

How is Attention scored on the AbilityScore?

Attention is not scored from a single test or online quiz. On the AbilityScore®, a qualified Pinnacle clinician observes how your toddler engages, sustains and shares focus during play and structured tasks, weighed against your child's own baseline. It is a clinician-administered structured assessment — only a Pinnacle clinician can confirm what it means.

How Attention Is Scored on the AbilityScore® — Ask Pinnacle, the Child Development Kośa

When you want to understand how your toddler focuses, settles and stays curious, the gentlest first step is a careful, caring look — never a number rushed onto your child.

In short

Attention is not scored from a single test or an online quiz. On the AbilityScore®, a qualified Pinnacle clinician observes how your toddler engages, sustains focus and shifts between activities during play and structured tasks, then weighs this against your child's own developmental baseline. It is a clinician-administered structured assessment — a warm, professional read of your child's everyday attention, not a label.

How attention is actually looked at

For a toddler (roughly 12–36 months), attention is read through behaviour in real moments, because focus at this age is naturally brief and easily pulled by the world around them. A skilled clinician gently observes:
  • Engagement — how readily your child tunes in to a person, toy or activity.
  • Sustained focus — how long they stay with something interesting before drifting.
  • Shared attention — whether your child looks where you point, follows your gaze, and shares enjoyment with you.
  • Shifting and returning — how they move between activities and come back to a task after a distraction.
  • Context — sleep, hunger, language understanding and sensory needs are all considered, because these shape attention and can look like difficulty when they are not.

The clinician brings these observations together as a structured picture, always understood alongside your child's full story — never from one snapshot.

What to watch

Seek a gentle professional look if your toddler rarely tunes in to people or toys, seldom follows your point or gaze, seems unusually hard to engage even when rested and fed, or appears markedly less focused than peers of the same age.

Try this at home

Follow your child's lead in play: join whatever they're already enjoying for a minute or two, name it warmly, and let focus build naturally. Short, shared, screen-free moments repeated daily grow attention better than any drill.

Frequently asked

Is there a single test that scores my toddler's attention?

No. Attention at toddler age is read through careful observation of how your child engages, sustains and shares focus during play and structured tasks, brought together by a clinician as a structured picture — not from one quiz or number.

Can I get an AbilityScore for attention online?

No. A clinical AbilityScore® and any diagnosis are formed only at a Pinnacle Blooms Network centre under a qualified clinician. Online figures are not valid assessments of your child.

My toddler can't focus for long — is that a problem?

Brief attention is completely normal for toddlers, whose focus is naturally short and easily drawn by the world around them. A clinician considers sleep, hunger, language and sensory needs before drawing any conclusions, always against your child's own baseline.
