Does Childhood Apraxia of Speech mean my child has a learning or intellectual difficulty?
No. CAS is a difficulty with planning and coordinating the movements for speech — it does not, by itself, affect intelligence, understanding or the ability to learn. Many children with CAS understand far more than they can say, which is why giving them non-verbal ways to respond matters so much.
How can I help my child learn when they can't yet speak clearly?
