At what age should my child follow simple commands?
Many children begin following simple one-step commands with a gesture around 12 months, and without a gesture by 15-18 months. By around 24 months, lots of toddlers can follow simple two-step instructions. Every child has their own pace, so think in ranges, not exact dates - and if you're unsure, a friendly developmental check can reassure you.
Should I repeat a command if my child doesn't respond?
Give your child a few seconds first - many children simply need more time to process the words. If there's no response, repeat it once calmly, add a gesture or gentle physical guidance, and warmly celebrate when they do it.
