Rett syndrome is a genetic neurodevelopmental condition (most often linked to the MECP2 gene) that affects movement, hand use, and spoken language. Because hand skills and speech are often affected, daily tasks usually need ongoing help. But ability varies widely from child to child, and progress is very real:- Communication — many children connect powerfully through eye-gaze devices, switches, gestures and choice-making, even without speech.
- Mobility — some walk independently or with support; others use a wheelchair and still move through the world actively.
