How long is the AbilityScore assessment and is it stressful?

The AbilityScore® assessment typically takes about 60–90 minutes, often across one or two relaxed sessions, and is designed to feel like guided play rather than a test — with no pass or fail. Your child sets the pace, you stay close, and clinicians pause or adapt whenever a break is needed. A clinical AbilityScore® is formed only at a Pinnacle Blooms Network centre under qualified clinician care.

How long is the AbilityScore assessment and is it stressful?
AbilityScore Assessment: Gentle, Play-Based, ~60–90 Minutes — Ask Pinnacle, the Child Development Kośa

You want to know your child will be comfortable — not poked, prodded or pressured — and that's exactly the right thing to ask.

In short

The AbilityScore® assessment usually takes around 60–90 minutes, often across one or two relaxed sessions, depending on your child's age, attention and comfort on the day. It is designed to feel like guided play and gentle conversation, not a test — and there is no pass or fail. Your child sets the pace, you stay close, and our clinicians pause or adapt the moment your child needs a break.

What the session actually feels like

We build the assessment around your child, not the clock. Most families experience it like this:
  • A warm welcome and history — the clinician chats with you about your child's milestones, strengths and your day-to-day worries while your child settles into the room.
  • Play-based observation — toys, pictures, simple activities and conversation let the clinician see how your child communicates, moves, plays and solves little problems. To your child, it looks like fun.
  • Your voice included — you know your child best, so structured questions and your observations form part of the picture.
  • Breaks whenever needed — snack, cuddle, or a pause. A tired or shy child is never rushed; sometimes we simply continue another day.

Most children enjoy the attention and the toys. A little shyness at the start is completely normal and usually melts within minutes.

Helping your child feel at ease

Keep it light at home — tell your child you're "going to meet a friend who has fun things to do." Bring a comfort toy, choose a time when your child is rested and fed, and let yourself relax too, because children read our calm. There is nothing to revise or prepare for; the assessment simply meets your child exactly where they are.

What to watch

If your child is unwell, very tired or unsettled on the day, tell the clinician — we can shorten the session or continue another day. A child-led, unrushed pace gives the truest picture, so there is never any need to push through distress.

Try this at home

Tell your child you're "going to meet a friend with fun things to do," bring a comfort toy, and choose a time when they're rested and fed. Children read our calm — so relax, knowing there's nothing to revise and nothing to pass or fail.
