SLD Disability Certificate — A Parent's Guide

Yes — in India, Specific Learning Disability is one of the 21 disabilities recognised under the RPwD Act 2016, so your child can get a disability certificate. It is issued by a notified government medical authority after structured assessment, and unlocks exam accommodations, a scribe, extra time and educational support. SLD is usually reliably identified from around age 8.

Under India's RPwD Act 2016, SLD is a recognised benchmark disability. With a valid certificate (40%+ impairment, usually assessable from ~age 8), a child may access exam accommodations, inclusive education, reservation, scholarships and a UDID card — while school-level remedial support needs no certificate and can start at once.
