Observing verbal reasoning on a home visit

During a home visit, a frontline worker should observe how a child reasons with language: following one- or two-step instructions, answering simple "why" and "how" questions, comparing or sorting things, explaining wants, and making small guesses in play. This is observing and noting in the child's home language — not testing or diagnosing.
