What this score actually means

The Understanding domain looks at how your child receives and processes information — following simple instructions, recognising familiar words and objects, grasping cause and effect, and connecting meaning to what they see and hear. A score is most meaningful when read together with the rest of your child's profile, because understanding underpins so much else — speech, play, learning and confidence.

A single band does not tell us why a child understands the way they do, only that this is their current picture. Two children with the same score can need very different support. That is exactly why the next step is interpretation by a person, not a number alone.
