How General Knowledge Is Scored on the AbilityScore

In short

General Knowledge on the AbilityScore® is measured by a qualified clinician through gentle, play-based questions and tasks that explore what your child understands about the everyday world — naming objects, recognising animals, knowing colours, body parts, daily routines and simple how-and-why ideas. There is no online score or single test; a clinician reads your child's responses against age-appropriate milestones and, importantly, against their own baseline. It is about strengths and next steps, never a label.

How it's actually looked at

For a child aged roughly 3 to 7, General Knowledge sits within the cognitive (thinking) domain, and a clinician observes it in warm, real-world ways:

• Everyday concepts — colours, shapes, sizes, body parts, common animals and objects your child can name or point to.
• World awareness — familiar places, weather, day and night, foods, vehicles, and the people and roles around them.
• Reasoning links — simple cause-and-effect, sorting and "what happens next" understanding that shows how facts connect.
• Language partnership — because knowledge shows through words, the clinician gently separates what your child knows from how clearly they can express it.

This is gathered through play and conversation, never a stressful quiz, so your child stays relaxed and you see their genuine ability.
