Everyday activities you can try

Sound-and-find games

• Call your child's name softly from one side, wait, then watch for the head turn. Praise the turn with a big smile and a cuddle.
• Shake a rattle, ring a bell, or crinkle paper to one side and just out of sight — let your child search for the sound, then reveal it.
• Move around the room while singing the same little song, so your child learns to track your voice as it moves.

Name the sounds of daily life

• Pause together and say, "Listen — that's the doorbell," "that's the fan," "the pressure cooker is whistling." Naming sounds helps your child link hearing to meaning.
• Read aloud and make animal or vehicle noises — "the cow says moo," "the bus goes vroom" — and let your child copy.

Pair sound with movement and play

• Play music and stop it suddenly — encourage your child to freeze, then start again. This builds active listening.
• Use a drum or pot lid: tap soft, then loud, and watch how your child reacts to the change in volume.

Make it gentle

• Keep background noise low (TV off) so the sound you want noticed stands out.
• Get down to your child's eye level, keep turns short, and follow their interest. A few joyful minutes several times a day beats one long session.
