The aim is never to lower expectations — it is to remove barriers so a child can show what they truly know and can do. Support may run alongside mainstream schooling (inclusion) or in a more focused setting, depending on the child's profile, and it is always reviewed and adjusted as the child grows. ## When special education helps Families often explore special education when a child finds reading, writing, numbers, attention, communication or classroom routines persistently harder than peers, or when a child has a developmental profile such as autism, an intellectual disability or a specific learning difference.
