The worker's role is to notice patterns and share them kindly with the family, never to label or diagnose. AbilityScore® is part of Pinnacle’s developmental assessment. Diagnosis, where needed, requires an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.","answer_md":"*In a busy daycare or anganwadi, you see children at their most natural — and that makes you one of the first to notice when a child is quietly struggling on the inside.*\n\n## In short\nEarly emotional and behavioural difficulties show up not as one dramatic sign, but as a **pattern over time** — a child who is far more distressed, withdrawn, aggressive or fearful than other children their age, in ways that get in the way of play, friendships and settling in. As an early-years worker you are not diagnosing anything; you are simply noticing patterns and sharing them kindly with the family so the child can get a proper check. Every child has hard days — it is the **persistence, intensity and impact** that matter.\n\n## Signs you might notice\nThink about whether a behaviour is much stronger or lasts much longer than you'd expect for the child's age, and whether it shows up across days and settings:\n- **Big emotions that don't settle** — frequent, intense meltdowns or tantrums that are hard to soothe long after most peers have calmed.\n- **Persistent sadness or withdrawal** — a child who rarely smiles, plays alone day after day, or seems flat and uninterested.\n- **High fear or clinginess** — extreme separation distress, constant worry, or freezing in everyday activities, beyond the usual settling-in period.\n- **Aggression or defiance** — frequent hitting, biting, throwing or refusing that disrupts the group and the child's own learning.\n- **Trouble with friendships** — struggling to share, take turns, or join others; being repeatedly left out or in conflict.\n- **Sudden changes** — a usually settled child who becomes tearful, angry, very quiet or starts wetting/regressing after being dry.\n\nNotice the **pattern, not a single bad day**. Jot down what you see, how often, and when — calm facts, never labels.\n\n## How to share what you see\nApproach the family warmly and without alarm. Describe specific things you've noticed (\"Aarav cries for a long time most mornings and finds it hard to join the other children\"), reassure them you simply want the child to be happy and settled, and gently suggest a developmental check. You are opening a door, not delivering a verdict.\n\n## The Pinnacle way\nAbilityScore® is part of Pinnacle’s developmental assessment. Diagnosis, where needed, requires an appropriately qualified healthcare professional — never from a checklist, an app or a classroom observation. Your notes are valuable early information that a clinician can build on. Encourage the family to [book a developmental check with a Pinnacle clinician](/behaviour-therapy).\n\nThis is general information, not a diagnosis — individual assessment and diagnosis require an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.","canonical":"https://pinnacleblooms.org/ask/what-early-signs-of-emotional-and-behavioural-difficulties-might-a-daycare-or-anganwadi-worker-notice","editorial":{"reviewed_at":"2026-06-11T20:12:18.613642+00:00","reviewed_by":null,"developed_by":"SETU Consortium · Pinnacle Blooms Network"},"alternates":[{"href":"https://pinnacleblooms.org/ask/what-early-signs-of-emotional-and-behavioural-difficulties-might-a-daycare-or-anganwadi-worker-notice","lang":"en","indexable":true},{"href":"https://pinnacleblooms.org/ask/what-early-signs-of-emotional-and-behavioural-difficulties-might-a-daycare-or-anganwadi-worker-notice-te","lang":"te","indexable":true}],"dimensions":[{"key":"conditions","label":"Conditions"}],"meta_title":"Early Signs of Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties","meta_robots":"index, follow, max-image-preview:large","everyday_tip":"Keep a simple, factual note of what you observe — what happened, how often, and when.
