The exact score and what it means for your child are always explained by a Pinnacle clinician.","answer_md":"A single number is only useful if it's honest and easy to act on. The AbilityScore® 0–1000 scale is built for that.\n\nThe scale expresses **how close a child currently is to age-typical functioning** across developmental domains — a higher score reflects skills nearer to what's expected for the child's age; a lower score signals the areas where focused support will help most. It is **age-referenced**, so a child's score is always compared against the right expectations for their stage, and stays meaningful as they grow.\n\nWhat matters for a family is not a label but a **direction**. The clinician uses the score to show three things in plain language: where the child is today, which domains to prioritise, and — at the next measurement — how far the child has moved. Two children with the same score can have very different profiles, which is why the score is always read **with** a clinician, never in isolation.\n\nA clinical AbilityScore® is formed only at a Pinnacle Blooms Network® centre, under clinician governance. This page explains what the scale means; your child's actual score and plan come from a clinician who has assessed them.\n\n**Explore more:** [How the AbilityScore® works](/ask/what-is-the-abilityscore-and-how-is-it-calculated) · [Book a free developmental assessment](/book-assessment) · [The 7-step Pinnacle journey](/ask/what-are-the-seven-steps-of-the-pinnacleai-child-development-journey)","canonical":"https://pinnacleblooms.org/ask/what-does-an-abilityscore-between-0-and-1000-mean","editorial":{"reviewed_at":"2026-06-10T01:31:34.460066+00:00","reviewed_by":"VII","developed_by":"SETU Consortium · Pinnacle Blooms Network"},"alternates":[{"href":"https://pinnacleblooms.org/ask/what-does-an-abilityscore-between-0-and-1000-mean","lang":"en","indexable":true},{"href":"https://pinnacleblooms.org/ask/what-does-an-abilityscore-between-0-and-1000-mean-te","lang":"te","indexable":false}],"dimensions":[],"meta_title":"What does an AbilityScore® between 0 and 1000 mean?","meta_robots":"index, follow, max-image-preview:large","everyday_tip":null,"published_at":"2026-06-10T01:31:34.460066+00:00","reading_paths":[{"key":"understand","items":[{"lang":"en","slug":"what-is-the-abilityscore-and-how-is-it-calculated","title":"What is the AbilityScore and how is it calculated?","reason":"Linked from this answer"}],"label":"Understand the subject","total":1},{"key":"assess","items":[{"lang":"en","slug":"what-does-an-abilityscore-of-0-100-in-achievement-mean-for-my-child","title":"What does an AbilityScore of 0–100 in Achievement mean for my child?","reason":"Linked from this answer"},{"lang":"en","slug":"what-does-an-abilityscore-of-0-100-mean-for-a-child-with-intellectual-disability","title":"What an AbilityScore of 0–100 Means for Intellectual Disability","reason":"Linked from this answer"},{"lang":"en","slug":"what-does-an-abilityscore-of-0-100-mean-for-a-child-with-global-developmental-delay","title":"What an AbilityScore Means for Global Developmental Delay","reason":"Linked from this answer"},{"lang":"en","slug":"what-does-an-overall-abilityscore-in-the-500-600-range-mean-for-my-child","title":"What does an overall AbilityScore in the 500–600 range mean for my child?","reason":"Linked from this answer"}],"label":"Understand assessment","total":4}],"what_to_watch":null,"authority_links":[{"url":"https://www.who.int/standards/classifications/international-classification-of-functioning-disability-and-health","tier":1,"source":"who_icf","display":"WHO ICF — International Classification of Functioning"}],"last_reviewed_at":"2026-06-10T10:03:12.170172+00:00","meta_description":"The 0–1000 AbilityScore® places a child's current development on a single, age-referenced scale a clinician interprets — higher means closer to age-typical independence.
