Visual impairment in young children arises from congenital conditions (genetic causes, cataracts, glaucoma), early-development factors (retinopathy of prematurity, strong refractive errors, untreated squint), and brain-based causes like cerebral visual impairment. ## What can cause it
**Present from birth (congenital)**
