ADHD is not diagnosed at age two — toddlers are naturally restless, impulsive and short on attention. Reliable ADHD assessment becomes meaningful only from around age 5–6, across home and school settings. At two, observe communication, social connection and play, and share any worry at a routine developmental check rather than seeking an ADHD label.

*At two, a girl who is busy, chatty and forever on the move is — far more often than not — simply being two.*

## In short
ADHD is **not diagnosed at age two**. Toddlers are naturally restless, impulsive and short on attention — that is healthy development, not a disorder. Formal ADHD assessment becomes meaningful only from around age 5–6, when expectations for sitting, waiting and focusing rise. At this age the right step is simply to watch how your daughter plays, communicates and connects, and to share any worry at her routine developmental check.

## What is actually appropriate to observe at two
Rather than hunting for "ADHD signs", notice the broad developmental picture — these are the things that genuinely matter at 24–36 months:
- **Communication** — using and combining words, following simple instructions, pointing to share interest
- **Social connection** — back-and-forth play, looking to you for reassurance, copying what you do
- **Play** — pretend play (feeding a doll, stirring a pot), curiosity, exploring with purpose
- **Movement & settling** — walking, climbing, and being able to settle with comfort and routine

High energy, a short attention span, running off, and big emotions are **expected** at two and are not, on their own, signs of ADHD. What is worth mentioning to a clinician is the wider pattern — for example, if speech, social engagement or play seem delayed alongside the restlessness, or if a previously gained skill is lost.

## When ADHD assessment becomes meaningful
Under ICD-11 (6A05), ADHD describes inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that is **persistent across settings** (home and nursery/school) and out of step with a child's developmental level — a judgement that simply cannot be made reliably in a toddler. Most reliable assessment happens from around school-entry age. Girls in particular may show quieter, more inattentive patterns later, so a calm watch-and-share approach now serves her well. If your worry is about overall development today, a general developmental check is the right route — not an ADHD label.

## The Pinnacle way
At two, the kindest and most useful step is a broad developmental review, not an ADHD test. A clinical [AbilityScore®](/ask/what-is-the-abilityscore-and-how-is-it-calculated) — a structured assessment administered by our qualified clinicians — gives an objective baseline across communication, social, play and motor domains, and is formed only at a Pinnacle Blooms Network centre. Any diagnosis is a clinician's decision, never the output of a screen or a checklist. Explore [child development support](/) or a [developmental assessment](/developmental-assessment) if you'd like reassurance and a clear picture.

## Trusted sources
Guided by WHO ICD-11 (6A05 Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), CDC "Learn the Signs. Act Early." milestone guidance, the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Pediatrics (HealthyChildren.org), and NICE NG87 on ADHD diagnosis and management — all of which place reliable ADHD assessment well beyond the toddler years.

**Next step —** if your daughter's energy comes with any worry about her speech, play or connection, book a gentle developmental check with the Pinnacle team on WhatsApp: +91 91001 81181.

This is general information, not a diagnosis — individual assessment and diagnosis require an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
