# Reasoning AbilityScore 0–100 — What Next Steps to Take

A Reasoning AbilityScore on the 0–100 scale is a snapshot of how a child is currently thinking and problem-solving, not a label or a measure of cleverness. The most useful next step is to have a clinician read the number alongside the child's age, attention and language, then build gentle, playful support. AbilityScore® is part of Pinnacle’s developmental assessment. Diagnosis, where needed, requires an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

*A single number is a starting point on a journey — not a verdict, and never the whole story of your child's bright mind.*

## In short
Your child's Reasoning AbilityScore sits on a **0–100 scale** that describes how they are currently thinking, solving problems and making connections — it is a snapshot, not a label, and certainly not a measure of how clever or capable your child is. The most useful next step is a calm conversation with a Pinnacle clinician who can read that number in the context of your child's age, attention, language and everyday life, and explain what (if anything) it points towards. From there, support is gentle, playful and tailored — and reasoning is a skill that genuinely grows with the right practice.

## What the score actually tells you
Reasoning describes a cluster of thinking skills — noticing patterns, understanding cause and effect, sorting and comparing, and working out the next step in a problem. A score across the 0–100 band tells the clinician *where to look more closely*, not what to fear:
- **A higher band** usually means your child's reasoning is tracking well for their age — support focuses on stretch and enrichment.
- **A middle band** often means a few specific skills could use playful strengthening — easily woven into everyday games.
- **A lower band** is a signal to look gently at *why*: sometimes attention, language, hearing or simply a child having an off day can shape how reasoning shows up. The number opens the conversation; the clinician finds the meaning.

Reasoning rarely stands alone — it leans on language, memory and focus. That is why one number is never read in isolation.

## Your next steps
1. **Don't panic, and don't over-read the number.** It is one measure on one day.
2. **Talk it through with a clinician** who can place it alongside your child's full developmental picture.
3. **Keep playing the thinking games of childhood** — sorting toys, simple puzzles, "what happens next?" stories, and letting your child puzzle things out before you rush to help.
4. **Seek a fuller check sooner** if you also notice trouble following simple instructions, little curiosity about how things work, difficulty with everyday problem-solving compared with peers, or if learning at preschool or school feels like a struggle.
