# 2-Year-Old Not Pointing: When to Check

By age 2, pointing — especially to share interest — is a meaningful early-communication milestone, so a child who doesn't point at all is worth a gentle developmental check, not panic. ## When to check
Book a general developmental check now if, by 2 years, your child does not point **and** rarely uses gestures, makes little eye contact, doesn't respond to their name, or has very few words.
