At What Age Is the SRS-2 Developmental Assessment Used?
The SRS-2 (Social Responsiveness Scale, 2nd Edition) is a clinician-used questionnaire that spans a wide age range — from about 2.5 years through to adulthood — using different forms for each stage. A preschool form covers roughly 2.5–4.5 years, a school-age form about 4–18 years, and adult forms 19 years and older. It measures everyday social communication and is always interpreted alongside clinical assessment, never as a standalone diagnosis.
Read the answer AnswerSocial Responsiveness Scale, 2nd Ed (SRS-2)
The Social Responsiveness Scale, Second Edition (SRS-2) is a widely used questionnaire completed by a parent, carer or teacher that gives clinicians a structured picture of how a child notices, responds to and connects with others. It assesses areas of social communication and interaction — social awareness, social thinking, social motivation and patterns of behaviour — across different lifespan forms. It is a screening and supporting tool, never a stand-alone diagnosis, and is interpreted by a qualified clinician alongside direct observation and other information.

SRS-2 vs the AbilityScore developmental assessment
The SRS-2 is a focused questionnaire measuring social-communication traits linked to autism, completed by a parent or teacher and producing one dimension of social responsiveness. The AbilityScore® is a clinician-administered, whole-child developmental assessment across many domains that builds a baseline and a practical therapy plan. They are complementary: a tool like the SRS-2 can sit within the broader AbilityScore® process. Only a qualified Pinnacle clinician confirms what any result means.
Read the answer AnswerShould My Child Have an SRS-2 Assessment?
The SRS-2 is a 15–20 minute questionnaire completed by a parent and often a teacher about a child's everyday social communication. It is one useful input — covering social awareness, communication and reading cues — never a stand-alone diagnosis. Whether your child should have one is a clinical decision, and at Pinnacle it is folded into a broader clinician-led assessment.
Read the answer AnswerWhen is the SRS-2 indicated, and what are its strengths and limits in early childhood?
The SRS-2 is indicated as a quantitative, dimensional measure of autistic social-communication traits — for screening, severity stratification and outcome tracking from age 2.5. Its strengths are brevity, a normed continuous T-score and sensitivity to subthreshold traits; its early-childhood limits are informant-rater bias, low specificity (overlap with ADHD, anxiety, language disorder) and that it is not diagnostic and not standalone. It supports, never replaces, direct observation and clinician judgement.
