## What good support actually looks like
- **It starts with your child, not the method.** A strong plan grows from understanding *your* child — how they communicate, play, regulate emotions and process the senses — and chooses approaches to fit, rather than fitting your child to a fixed programme.
- **Naturalistic and play-based.** Contemporary, well-regarded approaches teach skills inside everyday play and real moments, following your child's interests and motivation, not long hours of repetitive drills.
- **Respect and consent matter.** Good therapy builds genuine communication and joy, honours your child's sensory needs, and never aims to suppress harmless self-soothing behaviours or make a child appear "less autistic".
- **It rarely works alone.** Speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and parent coaching often work together with any behavioural approach for the fullest support.
- **You stay central.** As parents you should understand the goals, feel comfortable with the methods, and see your child engaged and happy — not distressed.
