Build routine adaptability by keeping a predictable daily rhythm, making time visible with a picture schedule, warning before transitions, then introducing small planned changes and warmly praising every flexible moment.

*Some children love knowing exactly what comes next — and that very strength can make surprises feel like a storm. Helping your child stretch their flexibility gently, at home, is one of the kindest skills you can build together.*

## In short
You can help your 3–7 year old grow routine adaptability by keeping predictability as the base, then introducing tiny, planned changes with plenty of warning and warmth. Use a visual schedule, prepare your child before transitions, and celebrate every flexible moment — even small ones. The goal is not to remove routine, but to teach your child that *change can be safe*.

## How to build it at home
**Start from safety.** A predictable rhythm — morning, meals, play, bed — is the foundation. A child who feels secure can borrow that security to handle change.

**Make time visible.** A simple picture schedule on the wall lets your child *see* the day. When something will differ, point to it in advance: "After snack, we usually play — today we'll visit Nani first, then play."

**Warn before you switch.** A two-minute and one-minute warning, or a timer, turns a sudden stop into an expected one. Pair it with a transition song or a special "goodbye" to the activity.

**Introduce micro-changes on purpose.** Swap the order of two calm activities, take a slightly different route to the park, or offer the blue cup instead of the red one. Keep early changes small and low-stakes.

**Name and praise flexibility.** "That was a big change and you stayed calm — well done being flexible!" This builds the emotional vocabulary behind the skill.
